w Countdown has begun

When you find out you're pregnant at 18 weeks, you panic and feel that you have to catch up. The good news was that we had bypassed all those early weeks where miscarriage is a common fear.

So Amazon.com got a big order from the Marshalls in October. Here's the list of books we ordered to help us brush up on pregnancy and labor:

Eating Expectantly, by Bridget Swinney
The Pregnancy Book, by Sears & Sears
Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way, by Susan McCutcheon
Inna May's Guide to Childbirth, by Inna May Gaskins
Birthing from Within, by Pat England
The Birth Partner, by Penny Simkin
The Birth Book, by Sears & Sears

Every night, Jon reads aloud to me from one of the birth guides. Right now, we're halfway through Inna May's book and it's wonderful. She's the most famous midwife in America and the attitude that emanates from her book is so reassuring. Jon also loved The Birth Partner as a source of practical and helpful information as to what to expect and what we can do to achieve a drug free birth. He also assures me that he is now confident he can deliver the baby himself in case of an emergency.  Oh boy.

I enjoyed reading Dr. Sears' pregnancy book to find out month by month what was happening and what to expect.  The 'Birth Book' is also excellent. Birthing from Within was a bit 'artsy' for me, but it did have wonderful stuff on pain management.
