| In
1999, we went to Paris for our honeymoon and decided to rent an
apartment in Montmartre instead of an impersonal, stuffy hotel room. We
were so happy with our choice that we decided to buy our own
pied-à-terre.
At first
Pierre, Jo's brother, lived in the apartment quite happily till he met
Sophie. Then, his living quarters at 11 Carpeaux were just too
far away from his beloved and we lost our dear
tenant. We
were reluctant to
rent to a local since French law favors the tenant way too much. We could have
ended up with an unwanted, free-loafing headache.
The only reasonable alternative was to rent our beloved apartment to
tourists for short term stays.
We found a fabulous manager called Yetunde, who takes care of all the
details, including taking reservations, collecting deposits and meeting
guests when they arrive. And if we decide we want to spend a few weeks
in Paris ourselves, we just tell Yetunde and she makes sure the
apartment is free during our stay. The best of both worlds. |
