23 August: Got an email from La Petite Fille’s kindergarten teacher, Ms Lisa, and I thought I’d quote from it. I hope she doesn’t mind, but we’re just so proud here at Trio Central:
I get the feeling that she is very happy and likes kindergarten a lot. She joins in all our activities- sharing various things at our Morning Circle and our afternoon reflection. During Choose/Do/Review, which is our choosing time right after rest time, Madeleine likes various activities. She enjoys playing Chutes and Ladders and Candy Land, reading books, playing play-dough, painting and writing. She seems to like the blocks as well.
Some may realize that La Petite Fille is an only child and doesn’t have a lot of experience sharing and playing with others. Both have been a source of difficulty and friction for her at school and at home. That she is now adjusting to the school environment with the multitude of children, stimulation, and competition for toys and attention is very encouraging. She certainly seems happier and more confident.
22 August: La Petite Fille has made a great adjustment to kindergarten! She loves loves loves her teacher, Ms Lisa! Ms Lisa reported that she had a divine day on Friday! She also reports that La Petite Fille is very imaginative. We are so proud of her.
12 August: La Petite Fille’s first day of at the kinder garden (her teacher’s name for kindergarten) was wonderful. Luckily, Maman Trio works at the same school and was able to sneak these pics to us! Ah, the perks of working at the school your kiddo attends, eh?
La Petite Fille loved EC-4 and her teacher, Ms Elaine, so much so we feared it would affect her transition. But, our little school girl was so excited about starting another school year that she didn’t seem to mind. We’ve been talking to her for six months about going to kindergarten this year. She is after all a big girl now complete with a big girl room and big girl bed.
Here Giang is walking Madeleine down the long walkway from the parking lot to the school. Maman Trio was on hand to help students and parents to find their classrooms. She was also on hand to welcome La Petite Fille to her new school year and snap this pic!
Madeleine saw Ms Elaine on her way into class and stopped off to say, “I’m a big girl now! I’m in kindergarten and Ms Lisa is my teacher.” She is sad about not being in Ms Elaine’s class any more, but very happy to be seeing her everyday at school.
Ms Lisa greets all of her new students at the door and pose for the occasional picture. The pre-school has a “staggered start” meaning that half of the class comes on the first day of school and the second half comes on the second day of school. Madeleine started on the second day. I think that is better since she doesn’t have to go to school one day, stay home the next, and then go back on the third.
It’s recess! Moving sand is a very important undertaking for a big five-year-old girl and Madeleine goes after it with all the seriousness of a civil engineer.
La Petite Fille has always hated having her hands dirty and once the sand has been moved, she’s done with the sand on her hands! She’s getting that off as fast as she can and moving on to something else!
Now that the day is done, Ms Lisa walks her class to the exit and makes sure that they find their respective caretakers. La Petite Fille is looking for Giang, but today, Maman Trio is there too!
When I got home, she had three library books! She was looking through them one by one. She missed the library and the wide selection of books they have there. She missed playing with the other children at school too. Summer was fun, but it’s good to be home, isn’t it?

SSIS Christmas Charity Bazaar! Today we went to the bazaar and it was so much fun! Let me show you what I did. First we got our faces painted: Dad, Mehar, & me!
