December 10 to 31, 2005 We haven't blogged for a while. Until we buy a laptop we probably won't be able to do 'on the road' postings. Here's an update of our 'vacation' in North America. First, we went to see my family in Marysville (less than an hour north of Seattle WA). We stayed at my sister Cheryl and her husband Dan's house. My mom Liz was also visiting at the same time, so Madeleine got to meet everyone but Ron (Liz's husband).
Here's a picture of Madeleine wearing her first tights & dress combo, sitting on her grandma's lap. She even seems to be listening to grandma's advice.
Here's a picture taken atop the Seattle Space Needle with my nieces Elizabeth (on the left) and Sarah. The five of us (Jo included) did an overnight trip in Seattle, took in Harry Potter at Imax, strolled through Pike Market Place, and had a great meal in a nearby restaurant.
Here's Madeleine as Santa's Little Helper. The suit was a gift from my mom. Doesn't she look adorable? [insert: December 16 to 20, 2005]
Hey! Jo here. Since Seattle is so close to B.C., we decide to do a side trip and give Jon's family a break. Above is a shot of the Marshall trio on board the Anacortes Ferry that goes from Anacortes WA to Sidney B.C. We went to visit my best friend Laurel for a few days.
Here's Madeleine sitting between myself and Laurel. Most people don't know it, but we're like two peas in a pod - I swear! Laurel's mom used to call us soul sisters - she was right. We had a lovely visit, but unfortunately, Madeleine got sick almost right after we arrived.
The picture above shows you Madeleine at the peak of her fever. We even had a damp washcloth on her head to keep her temperature down. Poor baby. Funny thing is, we had all these plans for Victoria, but when Madeleine got sick, it all got cancelled. I did have the chance to have lunch with an old friend from Hearst.
Here's a photo of Mike, who's also from Hearst. We met in university when he was dating my friend Nicole. Things didn't work out for them, but we stayed in touch. Mike is married to Janine, a gem of a kiwi girl, that he met THANKS TO ME! ;) There are now the proud parents to Samuel and Gabrielle. Sadly, with all the holiday bugs going around, I couldn't see Janine or the kids, but I promise to next time! Back to you Jon... December 20 to 31, 2005.
Here's a photo of Dan and Cheryl on Christmas day, opening present. Boy, what a long affaire that was!
Miracle of miracles...Madeleine started enjoying solid food during our trip to Seattle. It all started with my sister Cheryl's pumpkin soup. Who would have known? In the above shot, I'm feeding her some yummy Gerber carrots courtesy of Northwest Airlines. Some even got into her mouth! December 9, 2005 Tomorrow Madeleine takes her first trip to the U.S.A. to meet her father's side of the family. We'll also do a quick side trip to British Columbia so see some old friends. She knows something is up because she refuses to go to sleep, which makes the packing and cleaning a bit less efficient. By the way, her suitcase IS the LARGEST. Jon and I will have to share a toiletry bag and shop for clothes once we get to Seattle. We've decided to bring her Bumbo seat and her jumper. Factor in the diapers and you've got a suitcase. Luckily, since she has her own seat, we get lots of luggage allowance. Well, can't chat too long. We'll be America for 3 weeks. Who knows when we'll be able to update this page since it takes a bunch of software we're not sure Cheryl (Jon's sis) has. We do promise to take lots of pictures. Till then...Happy Holidays!
December 2, 2005 Here's a picture of my beautiful sister's budding belly. Her due date is April 29th, so don't be surprised if she's not showing much yet. Us Chauvin women show late. We also have babies late in life: my mom had Michel at 36, I had Madeleine at 38 and Nathalie just turned 38 today. Happy Birthday! Madeleine might not have a little sister to share toys with and hand clothes down to, but at least she'll have a sweet little cousin. We hope Nathalie and Grant put up a website of their own soon. Maybe it could be called "Snow Bud" since she'll be peaking out in the spring. We're very excited.
November 30, 2005 Ok, the next video is only for die-hard fans (and no I don't mean the Bruce Willis movie). I was trying once again to film Madeleine without her knowledge. However, the minute she heard the 'beep' of the camera being turned on ... well you'll see. November 28, 2005 It's already hard to get Madeleine to act naturally in front of the camera. She's such a poser! A future lens hog! So yesterday, while Jon was chatting with her, I snuck the camera at my hip level and tried to look like I was just watching them. In the next video you'll see her quite natural ...at first. She even starts playing her favorite game (peek-a-boo, where she pretends to hide, putting any object on had next to her face - as if that fools us!) but then... she spots the video camera and ...well you'll see. November 26, 2005 It's been busy -- crusy, you know? -- lately and we didn't even have Thanksgiving dinner or watch a Thanksgiving football game! I'll get right to the important bits: Nathalie and Grant, Jo's sister and brother-in-law, report that they are going to have a girl! So, get those pink gifts ordered now! Congratulations Nat and Grant! We couldn't be happier -- a cousin about Madeleine's age! Madeleine couldn't be happier either -- this picture was taken right after we told her! She and Monsieur Ourson are tickled pink about it. Well, Madeleine is pink, Monsieur Ourson will always be that rather gay shade of turquoise.
I've been in charge of the Grand Baby Food Experiment. Here's an excerpt. 05/11/01 Today I've decided to start Madeleine on solid food. She's still waking up every two hours to eat at night and it is being very hard on Jo. She's simply got to start sleeping longer. Last time we tried to feed her though, things didn't turn out so well, but I'm sure that if I keep an accurate an honest account of what I'm doing, I can find a way to get Madeleine to EAT! Equipment: 1/5th a ripe banana (well mashed); 1 monkey dish; Bumbo; plastic bib; baby spoon; washable toy; clean cloth That list should handle about everything. Process: Mash the banana until it is almost a liquid. Put it in the monkey dish. Strip the baby to the waist and sit her in the Bumbo. Place the plastic bib around her neck and leave fall across her torso, lap and upper legs. Give her the toy! Make sure it is washable! That is very important. Have the clean cloth handy. A few pointers about keeping things clean:
Conclusions: The toy proved to be a stroke of genius! Every time she tried to put the toy in her mouth, I zipped a spoonful of food in! It was brilliant. She made faces and she cried a bit, but she ate the whole dish! I can see the book title now: Jon Marshall's Infallible Baby Feeding Method. The dilemma of a millennia finally solved! I'll make millions! Well, that's it folks. You heard it here first -- Jon Marshall's "super-genius" baby feeding method has arrived! Oh boy, someone alert the media! November 16, 2005 Did you know that babies are born with a highly developed vestibular system? A vesti...what? It's the 'sixth' sense that allows us to perceive our body's movement and degree of balance. (By the way, I'm copying most of this directly out of our "What's Going On In There?" book. Anyway, it goes on to explain that we have this system to help orient ourselves with respect to gravity and it's very important for baby's sensory motor development. Ok, am I boring you? Well, there is a point. In the next video, you'll see Madeleine bobbing her head like a cute little head banger at a Motley Crew concert. Jon and I were surprised at this behavior; it just started a few days ago. Jon was wondering if it was a sign of a problem, but we were both reassured when I read that it's PERFECTLY NORMAL for babies at this age. Seems that infants crave vestibular stimulation and this impulse is so strong that they'll produce their own by bouncing, swaying, head-shaking, etc... I got it on video and thought I'd share. Just 'cause it's funny.
November 12, 2005 Grab the popcorn folks; we've got the videos lined up for you.
November 9, 2005 Madeleine's new cousin. Isn't ...it... cute? We'll know in a couple of weeks what color layette to buy. With the way things have gone for the Chauvins, it's bound to be pink: Gabrielle, Stephanie, Danika, Madeleine... But you never know! Congratulations Nathalie and Grant! Way to go!
November 5, 2005
Of course lots has happened since July 27th, but truth be told we have been too busy to blog it. Our collective apologies. Madeleine has of course been busy being a baby. She has teeth buds to show for her efforts and the ability to push herself onto her knees. She's also eating solids -- at least liquefied solids -- once a day now. Pretty nifty for a globe-trotting baby. Jo has been teaching writing to a bunch of English language and literature majors, breast-feeding Madeleine (which means she is getting up multiple times during the night) and keeping us organized. Jon has been teaching his usual load, starting a French class and winding up his old job as coordinator of the foreign faculty. Now he's just a faculty member. I've been inspired to contribute the continuing evolution of the English language. (Just remember you heard it hear first, y'all!) We've been crusy! That follows the same development as crunk, which is crazy and drunk run together. So, crusy is crazy and busy put together. And who says that $10,000 on my English masters was wasted, huh? Crusy! Boy, I even impress myself some times!
Let me hit on the main events, which are the only ones we have pictures of. August 13th Madeleine and her daddy are reunited. I told Jo my eyes were itchy, watery and red due to pollution in the air, but I'm guessing she knew better even though she didn't say anything. Isn't the Incheon International Airport wonderful. And if you squint and turn your head just right you can see President Kim Dae-jung just over my left shoulder.
August 23rd - 24th we went to Japan. Jo had to get a new work visa for her new job with the English Language & Literature Department. Madeleine was a hit (big surprise) with the local crowd. We'll post a short video soon.
August 26th we celebrated Jon's 45th birthday! Our friend Sanghee (an aspiring pastry chef) even baked a cake for the occasion. Since Madeleine wasn't into solids yet, she decided that Sanghee's necklace looked just as yummy.
October 23rd we took a family trip to Sorak National Park. Jo didn't have classes during mid-term week and I don't have classes on Mondays and Tuesdays, so that meant we had a four day weekend! We took two of those days and headed up to the most beautiful spot in Korea to watch the fall foliage -- Sorak Mountain! The Jeep stroller was a marvel of engineering technology and enabled us to go anywhere and everywhere with our little 'tresor' (treasure as the French say).
October 31st - Halloween. Every Halloween the English-only cafe on campus hosts a party. The cafe staff comes in costume and they have some contests. Some of the faculty also attend. Madeleine came as a star or at least was the star. And if you can't tell, I came as a Canadian. Jo just came as her beautiful tired mom self.
July 27th, 2005 Let me tell you about Madeleine's first week in Canada. If you're not familiar with where my parents live, let me tell you that my hometown is an 11 hour drive up north west from Toronto. My mom and I took it easy. Saturday the 16th, we only drove for an hour to Barrie to sleep the first night. The next morning we drove to North Bay and stopped to do some shopping. We bought Madeleine some new toys! Here's a picture of Madeleine and her new floor mat gym.
I was so excited I put it together in the hotel room were we stayed in New Liskeard! On the 18th we finally got to Hearst. The first week, I was pretty tired. Madeleine and I slept a lot to rest up. When I got my energy back, my mom and I went for nice long walks with Madeleine's new Jeep stroller. See how comfortable she looks below.
July 25th, 2005 I thought I'd take this opportunity to give everyone an account of Madeleine and my trip from Korea to Canada. I had bought 2 seats in economy class. I was hoping for a bassinette, but the travel agent had said the airline couldn't guarantee those. It depended on the number of infants on board the plane and was apparently a 'first come first served' bases. I had heard horror stories about mothers traveling alone with infants, counting on a bassinette, but ending up holding the baby in their arms all the way home. So the plan was to put Madeleine in her Sit'n'Stroll and waltz right into the plane, tuck in the wheels and attach it to her seat. Well, the best laid plans and all... when I tried to put the Sit'n'Stroll into the seat, it wouldn't fit (the seat wasn't wide enough). The instructions said that if that happened I should raise the arm rest between seats. Well, we had the seats just in front of the bulkhead (divider wall in the plane) so the armrests wouldn't raise since they contain a fold out table. This was 10 min before take off. The flight attendants conferred the their boss and decided they had to stow away the stroller. I had to hold Madeleine during take off. Later, they would bring the Sit'n'Stroll back and let me sit her in it ...but only if there wasn't any turbulence. Then, out of the blue, this really nice 'newbie' flight attendant who seemed Korean/Canadian asked: Would you like a bassinette? I said: I'd love one! She said she'd install it after take off. Oh joy! What luck! So Madeleine got to sit on me to eat and play, and when she'd fall asleep, I'd tuck her into the bassinet that was attached on the wall in front of me. I put a photo below to help you get an idea of how it worked. Madeleine was a wonderful traveler. She slept most of the last 7 hours of the flight. She almost never fussed. What a baby! Our flight was delayed by 10 minutes only. All went well going through immigration and customs. My mom, cousin Luc and his girlfriend were there waiting to greet us. Madeleine was in a great mood (having slept nearly 7 hours). I'll continue 'Madeleine's Canadian Adventure' tomorrow.
July 23rd, 2005 It's been a while. Sorry about that. I couldn't update this web page because the computer at my parents' place didn't have the proper software. Well, in the next few days I'll try to add as much as possible and bring everyone up to speed. To stay your appetite, here's Madeleine in her newest toy: a jumping chair.
July 15th, 2005 Just a quick note before we head off to the airport. All is packed, including the baby! Yes we have passports. Yes we have tickets! Next time you hear from us Madeleine and I will be in Canada. Bon voyage! July 14th, 2005 Look mom! Almost packed!
Today I spent the day taking things out of the closets and dressers and putting them into a suitcase. I hate packing. Just ask my mother who used to have to do this dastardly deed for me every time I had to go back to university. Wow, baby clothes are small and easy to pack. No need to worry about wrinkles either. I should travel with a baby all the time. Just a pair of Jon's pants takes up almost the same space as all her pajamas. Tomorrow we'll do the packing fine tuning and by 3 p.m. Jon will be home to carry the heavy luggage to a taxi. Then, it's the Marshall Trio off to Kimhae Airport (Busan's) to take a flight to Seoul where we'll spend quality family time at an airport hotel. Saturday, daddy will have to say goodbye to Madeleine because she and I are going to Canada to show her off to her maternal side of the family. Jon, unfortunately, was too busy this summer to come along. Well, somebody's got to earn a living, eh? Jon wants my relatives to know that Madeleine is only ON LOAN for one month. Nobody gets to keep her longer than that! July 12th, 2005 I went shopping with Emiko (and June) today at the Pusanjin Market. This is wear brides to be come with their moms to load up on dishware and bedding. People also buy sewing material and clothes. In the picture below there are some traditional Korean clothes called 'hanbok'. These days, they are worn mostly on special occasions like birthdays, national holidays and weddings. Yesterday we went to Pusan National University Hospital for Madeleine's 4 month vaccination. Madeleine weighs 6.6 kg - that's 14.5 lbs! In other words, she's doubled her weight since birth. She measures about 65.5cm/26 inches (it's hard to know for sure when she keeps kicking the instrument, but with my measuring tape at home she seemed more like 66cm.) She had two: polio and DTaP, a shot on each thigh. Once again, Sang-hee came to the rescue (I'm such a wimp) and held Madeleine during the traumatizing moments. Madeleine was pretty tired by the time it was time for her shots (I dressed her up too cutely and she got way too much attention), so she cried more than usual. However, within 10 minutes she was fast asleep. I think her mom gets more traumatized than she does. I can't wait for these to be over!!!
July 10th, 2005 A nice quiet day at home. We did have a visitor. Our landlady's daughter-in-law came by (she's the only one in the family that speaks English, so when something needs to be explained, she helps out). You see, last week I told our landlady that we'd be moving out at the end of August. I explained that a larger family (two bedroom) apartment would be free in the Foreign Professors' Apartments on campus. And it's free. Wait! I forgot to mention that our landlady is practically begging us to let her baby-sit Madeleine when I go back to work. Well, the daughter-in-law came to say that the landlords would lower our rent by 33% if we decide to stay and let her watch Madeleine. Man! What would you do? On the one hand you have the convenience of living close to work with many of your colleagues in the same building and play baby tag. Or you could have a lovely grandmotherly Korean woman baby-sit as we commute (about 25 minutes) back and forth to campus and live in an apartment where every significant family event in our Korean lives has happened. How to choose? We can't decide... in the meantime... Here's Madeleine standing on me.
July 9th, 2005 Mommy got a haircut today (the first one in 6 months). Madeleine and daddy were waiting at Starbucks, one block away. Then mommy called daddy while the hairdresser was getting ready to blow dry her hair and all she heard was a baby crying pitifully and loudly. Thanks daddy! Then daddy got on the phone and said I'm bringing her to you right away. Thanks daddy. So mommy was stressed out till they got there. But of course, when they came in, Madeleine wasn't crying at all. Apparently she only cried for a minute when mommy called. Thanks daddy. Like my haircut? It's probably the last one I get for at least 6 months.
July 5th, 2005 One of the reasons Madeleine is such a joy, is that she always seems to wake up a happy smiling baby! I happen to catch her as she woke up from her afternoon nap. See for yourself!
July 4th, 2005 I'd like to say 'Hi' and 'Happy 4th of July' to Grandma Marshall who says she reads this blog faithfully. It's nice to know we have such a devoted fan. I'm sorry all the videos are in French, but really, you probably understand more than Madeleine, ha ha ha! Yesterday, Sunday, Jon put Madeleine in her Kozy carrier and we went to Nampodong to do some shopping. Jon bought new hiking boots and summer sports sandals. That man sure is rough on his footwear. You should have seen the staff at the North Face shop! You would have thought we walked in with Celine Dion. They were so focused on Madeleine that they asked Jon if his wife was Korean; they hadn't even seen me come in after them. Yoo hoo, I'm right here! Then we went for dinner at the Outback's restaurant. Again, our baby caused a stir. Once the first waitress saw her, it seemed about 12 different staff members came one after the other just to get a peak out our little doll. That's what they kept calling her: Oh! She is a doll! So cute! So pretty! In a way, it's nice because then I never have to worry about matching my clothes or combing my hair: nobody ever looks at me! On the subway home we just stood by some doors and kept Madeleine out of sight. She was pretty tired by then and needed a break from all the attention. Here's a video I took this morning of our little happy baby. She is such a morning person! Enjoy! July 2nd, 2005 Wow. Time flies. July already! And in 2 weeks exactly Madeleine and Jo will board a plane in Seoul bound for Toronto. Baby's first big adventure! Madeleine's been a bit fussy today. She's usually such a good baby that we really notice it. Jo thinks it could be all the tomatoes she's been eating lately. Madeleine usually eats like a pro but for the last couple of days she seems to be out of sorts, breast wise. Just in case, Jo's decided to add more fruit to her diet and cut out tomatoes, onions and cheese. Forgoing cheese is going to kill her. You know, the French heritage and all. Well, our fussy baby couldn't decide what she wanted to do today: sitting, rocking, playing, standing (see pic below), etc... Finally, her daddy bundled her up in her Kozy Carrier and took her to the vet. Before you get any strange ideas, it was for our pet hamster Clancy who has a perennial case of foot infection. We used to think it was a birth defect, but our vet, after x-rays, is trying antibiotics. The vet says continue Clancy on her meds. Madeleine was deemed in perfect health...by the vet's wife.
June 28th, 2005 Madeleine wants to say hi to her uncle Pierre who's working really hard beautifying and renovating her future inheritance. Merci! She hopes to visit you next summer, 2006, and visit (and stay at) your Parisian pied-a-terre.
Her daddy's more excited about the fact that the Soccer World Cup will be held in Germany and that's not too far from gay Paris. The jury is still out on the color of Madeleine's eyes. Some people say grey, others brown, but her mommy thinks she's going to have daddy's eyes: a mix of light brown and green that changes day to day or depending on the mood of the moment. I've included a close-up below. What do you think?
Weekend of the 24th to the 26th, 2005 Happy birthday Emiko. It was Emiko's birthday on Friday. We went for lunch together on Sunday, JUST THE GIRLS, while our husbands minded the kids. Wow. We couldn't believe the quiet. It was like having a vacation. Now I know what I want for my birthday. Saturday was sooooo unbelievably hot and humid that the Marshall Trio laid low all day. We never ventured out the door till 8 p.m. when a nice cool breeze had started up and meant rain was on its way. We went for a family walk up the road to Pomosa. It was packed with people. Koreans love walking and sitting on the side of road on hot summer evening. They'll actually bring a straw-like mat, set it up on the sidewalk and sit there chatting with their family eating watermelon or something. It's a nation of very practical people. Why pay for a/c when it's cool outside? Here's a picture of Madeleine's newest pastime: playing with her feet. Oh cool! I have these at the other end of me? Wonder what they taste like? How far will they bend I wonder? (Unfortunately, all my efforts of trying to get a photo of her with a foot in her mouth were in vain. Perhaps she'll grow up to be a diplomat?)
Sunday the 19th, 2005 Did we tell you we were raising a genius? We might have mentioned it a few hundred times. In the next video, you'll actually see proof. Jo filmed me interacting with Madeleine. Watch how intently she focuses on my mouth and actually imitates what I say. It's simply amazing. In case you need help translating baby talk to English, she first says 'la' as in do/re/mi... and then actually purses her lips in preparation to say 'papa'. I'm so proud. What better father's day gift! Saturday the 18th, 2005 How come we have a zillion pictures of Madeleine alone, million with her dad but almost NONE with me? Because the moms are usually the ones with the camera in their hands, that's why? Luckily, today Jon was the photographer, and here's the result. Mind you, maybe Jon doesn't take a lot of pics because I never have time to style my hair or wear clothes I didn't pick up off the floor from the day before without checking if they match. Oh well, a mother's life.
Remember how we told you that going out
with Madeleine is like being part of the 'posse' of a celebrity? I saw
this cute 'onesie' in an online children's clothes and I thought "Perfect
for her". Wednesday the 15th, 2005 Because of final exams at PNU, Jon doesn't have to teach classes this week, yippee! We decided to have a family outing today. We got Madeleine all pretty in her cutest clothes...even some matching pink sneakers. However, you will never see pictures because... 10 minutes before leaving she had a ... well, an accident in the diaper area...that spread over a larger area... Let's just say Jo was in the bathroom scrubbing several items, including the changing pad blanket, for 25 minutes. Well, that delayed us, but we finally set off to the shopping area near PNU. Madeleine got tons of attention once again. It's like traveling with a celebrity! When she fell asleep we had a nice lunch at a Japanese sushi roll place. Yummy. We just changed the Sit'n'Stroll into a chair and sat her on the bench next to us. She never woke up. Next we went to see a movie at our favorite DVD room (they know us REAL well there) and watched 'Alfie' a remake of the Michael Caine flick. Very enjoyable. Madeleine enjoyed her second visit at the DVD room much more than the first. An enjoyable day had by all. Now, for great grand-papa Denis, we have a special treat. Madeleine was in an especially cheery mood this afternoon, so she got some of it on tape for you. Enjoy! Sunday the 12th, 2005 A lazy day at home for the Marshalls. Jon worked on his thesis, Jo worked on cleaning out the boiler room and Madeleine napped a lot. However she was awake long enough to take cute pictures with her pal green bear and make a couple of videos that shows off her myriad expressions. See for yourself. I think she's getting cuter by the day. Yes, parents are biased. Yes, it's ok to be biased. No, we're never going to change.
Unfortunately for her great grandpa Denis, these videos might as well have been silent movies. All she does is act cute, surprised, alarmed, etc... without a peep. Mommy had to provide all the verbal input. We promise to fill the next one with tons of giggles, chat and exclamations. Oh, and a short film entitled 'She sticks out her tongue and she's still adorable' Went to Paul Hagerty's wedding this afternoon. It was a lovely affair in a large traditional style garden, with lots of trees, paths and flowers. Congratulations to the happy couple!
It was also the first time I'd seen some of my co-workers since I'd been pregnant. Phil, if you're reading this, thanks for the wonderful compliment. All new moms love hearing that they look great (though I still have a few pounds to go). Your wife trained you well (thanks Vivian). In the photo below, you can see darling Madeleine sitting in her new Sit'n'Stroll car seat/stroller. We bought this handy dandy piece of equipment for the trip to Canada. The stroller transforms into a seat with a simple lever maneuver and its wheels fold underneath. You should see the eyes of the taxi drivers when they see Jon just lift the stroller (and Madeleine strapped in) off the ground and perform this little trick. The car seat is approved by the FAA and so can be used in planes and motor vehicles. How handy.
I've been telling my mom how we get stopped in the street at every corner by Korean grandmas who want to coo over Madeleine. Well today I got it on film. Here's proud papa showing off his daughter.
Week of June 6th to the 10th, 2005 Let me sum up the top week events, since I've been too lazy to do daily blogs. We've decided that to help Madeleine get ready for her big trip to Canada, we should take her out as often as possible to get her used to the big wide world...so we took her grocery shopping. We used the Sit'n'Stroll. Boy did it turn heads, especially with such a cute baby in it! We also took her to Starbucks...again, what a little head turner she is. I even fed her quietly sitting in one of the stuffed chairs. Wow! I'm getting good at this breastfeeding in public thing! And Wednesday, while walking up the road to Pomosa Temple at night, I stopped off to the side and sat in the shadows feeding Madeleine a light 9 o'clock snack. Nursing in nature is the best by far! Sunday June 5th, 2005 We realize that we hadn't posted any videos lately, and that's a shame! Low down dirty shame! 'Cause pictures don't do our little girl justice. So, crack out the popcorn and enjoy! Movie Night brought to you by the Marshalls
Saturday June 4th, 2005 Today the whole family went to PNU because Jon needed to give a student a make-up test and we wanted to go out afterwards. (Hey, and any chance to show off our little piece of perfection, you know how proud parents can be!) We decided to try something NEW. We took Madeleine to a DVD room (in Korea it's called a DVD Bang, because 'bang' = 'room'. What's a DVD room? Well, if you need to ask, you have never lived in Korea. It's a business that rents out little private rooms (about 8'x8') equipped with a projection screen and a sofa. Why? Well, most Korean young people live at home till they get married and so to meet friends or date, they need placed OUTSIDE their home. They don't hang out in their parents' basement (they never have them here anyway). For about $10 you can pick a movie when you come in, bring your own food (we had Subway sandwiches), kick up your feet and enjoy. It's cheaper than going to the theatre and you get to have subtitles (bonus for foreigners watching non-English flicks). Actually, Jon and I would often go to a DVD room on the weekend just to get out of the house, when we wanted to avoid movie theatres (either nothing good playing or the lines were too big). We went regularly to this certain DVD room place while I was pregnant and decided, 'What the hay? Let's see if Madeleine likes it.' Also, it seemed like a perfect place to breastfeed in private. We thought we'd start her on a comedy and picked out the movie 'Spanglish'. Well, it went well ...for a while, until Adam Sandler started yelling at ...somebody and then, Madeleine started to cry. She seemed inconsolable. We tried to tell her it was just a movie, but she didn't seem to understand. Finally she fell asleep and we were able to watch the end. All in all it wasn't so bad. I'm sure with a lot of practice she'll be able to watch another Sandler movie someday, but NEVER 'The Longest Yard', because Jon believes it to be a perversion of the original movie with Burt Reynolds in the lead.
Tuesday May 31st, 2005 What's new with Madeleine? Well, she's enjoying looking at her reflection in the mirror and flirting with herself...or at least, that's what she seems to be doing. She also seems to enjoy having a saliva production contest with her mirror image. The winner is always the Kleenex Tissue corporation. Madeleine is also working hard on producing the word 'mama'. She's now able to put her lips together for the 'm' part. Of course, Jon says she's getting ready to say 'papa' and is making the 'p' lip position. We'll give you a final verdict after we consult a phonetics expert. Oh, and she's now wearing 3~6 months labeled clothes. That's right, at a mere 10 weeks, our little girl is going a size up. Below we've posted TWO pictures of our sweet princess in her first dress ever. Why two? Well, she's just WAY too cute just for one!
Tuesday May 31st, 2005 Sometimes, this camera does funny things with color...and here's an example. This almost looks like a picture that was faded by time or like a pastel drawing. Either way, I still like it. For all you big Madeleine fans, her eyes are starting to change color, but we don't know to what yet. The area around the pupil is lightning. I've read that we won't actually know the final result till she turns one. Actually, her original eye color is still hard to explain...dark blue/grey perhaps? My eyes are medium brown and Jon's change from green to brown depending on his moods. There's blue and brown on my side and brown and hazel on Jon's so your guess is as good as mine. Her hair is still blond/red at this point...what little there is.
Monday May 30th, 2005 We created a genius...well, don't most parents think so at every developmental step? Jon noticed that Madeleine was watching his hands with fascination, so he decided to do a little experiment. He slowly changed his hand's shape (ex: open hand to tip of index finger touching tip of thumb)...and guess what happened? YES! Our little genius started imitating his gestures...not perfectly, but a noticeable imitation. Aren't babies enthralling? Here's our little cheeky girl asleep in the boppy on mommy's lap.
Saturday May 28th, 2005 My parents noted, rightly so, that I hadn't posted many pictures this week so I tried to make up for it today. Below is a particularly cute shot of Madeleine between 'outfits'. Actually, she's grown so much (Jon thinks she's almost 6 kg) that we might just have to take out the 3~6 months outfits. No wonder my arms, shoulders and back are sore! I'm actually thinking of going to see Emiko's acupuncturist who helped her with the same problem. Oh, and for you die-hard fans, I've also included a video below. Don't miss it!
Sunday May 22nd, 2005 Tummy time was so exciting that we decided to film part of it today. Madeleine has to do some major weight lifting (her head) every night after dinner. She doesn't like being totally flat on a blanket, but if you put a pillow bellow her chest, she can tolerate it for a few minutes. Here's Madeleine's funny "I'm giving it my all!" weight lifting face!
Sunday May 22nd, 2005 Madeleine slept next to her daddy till 10:30 this morning! Talk about taking after her old man. Jo couldn't believe it. She kept coming in to check up on us. Lately, Madeleine's been sleeping till 4 a.m. She goes right back to sleep after a feeding and doesn't wake till 7 or 8. She should be sleeping the whole night through in no time at all. The whole family went for a long walk up the road to Pomosa today. Our pedometer read 2.4 miles (about 4 km). We've had nothing but great weather and want to take advantage of it before the rainy season kicks in. Then there's the intense summer heat...don't get me started. Below is a picture I took of my two favorite gals in the world. Aren't I a lucky guy?
Friday May 20th, 2005 Madeleine has a new friend: Cathy Caterpillar. This Lamaze brand toy was a gift from Michelle and Patrick, who said it was one of Marieve's favorite. Looks like it'll be one of Madeleine's favorite too. She seemed to be captivated by the crinkly noise that happens when she touches the red part. As I'm writing this, I keep thinking..."is any of this information as interesting to anyone else?" Honestly, I could be boring the pants off anyone but a dedicated early childhood psychologist or her grandparents. Grandparents are very tolerant I've found out. They seem to delight in their grandkids' nuances almost as much as mommy and daddy.
Friday May 20th, 2005 It's Friday already. Where does the week go? Honestly, being on a 'baby schedule' makes the days fly by. Madeleine now loves going out for a walk every day (weather permitting). I swear she can even recognizes the Kozy Carrier when I start putting it on and smiles. She's such a curious child. She'll peek out of the top of the carrier and is fascinated by everything around. She'll fight sleep for as long as she can, but eventually, is lulled by the rhythm of my steps. Here's a picture of her when I came back from our walk today. Look at those lashes! No need for mascara for this little girl!
Thursday May 19th, 2005 It's official! Madeleine and I are going to Canada this summer. Here's Madeleine's reaction to the news: Happy Buddha's Birthday!
As we explained in 'Firsts', Madeleine now thinks her hands and fingers are yummy treats. Did we mention how happy she is first thing in the morning? She definitely is not taking after her daddy. She's always wide awake, completely happy and chatty! A real joy! As Chandler would say in the TV show Friends, "Could she BE more of a morning person!?" Thursday May 12th, 2005 We went for Madeleine's 2nd month appointment... and SHOTS! She received her 2nd Hepatitis B vaccination, as well as DTaP for diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (the a stands for a cellular). All of them have mild side effects ranging from swelling and soreness to heat and redness around the injection site. Only the pertussis has a risk for serious side effects and that is only in 1 out of 110,000 injections suggesting that there may be an unrelated cause involved. Other side effects are irritability, rash and fever. So far, Madeleine only feels slightly warm, probably due to our overactive imaginations. However we're being extra-cautious around the injection sites. Now we have to decide whether we want her protected from meningitis and pneumonia or not. Apparently there are two types of meningitis -- viral and bacterial. The viral kind is relatively harmless and the bacterial kind particularly nasty. Luckily it is rare. After we do a little more research we'll probably opt for them. Who would want to decline the immunizations and then have their child come down with meningitis? I know there are people who think that immunizations carry some risk, but you definitely have to weigh out the pros and cons and really the effects of something like one of the childhood diseases is much worse than small (once you look at all of the numbers) risk of the vaccinations. But then who wants to have decided to get an optional vaccination and have that one be the one that causes some gawd awful problem? The world is fraught with risk and some decisions are not clear, are they? The process of getting the immunizations, i.e. injections, is painful for Madeleine and Jo doesn't want to be associated in Madeleine's mind with the pain, so luckily our friend and hospital employee extraordinaire, Sang-hee, is willing to shoulder that burden and holds Madeleine while the dirty deed is done. She is especially good at it and begins soothing Madeleine before Jo can return. All in all, things went as well as could be expected. Madeleine got her shots. Sang-hee supervised the process well and said that Madeleine was a really good baby. Jo made sure that she had a warmed bottle of mother's milk ready to sooth our little princess's trauma. On a lighter note, our little piggy weighs 5.3 kg (11.5 lbs) and is 59 cm! Way to go Madeleine! Wednesday May 11th, 2005 Jon came home from work at 10:30 am to baby-sit while I went to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned. He made a video while I was gone to prove to me how 'fussy' Madeleine was and how much hard work it is to baby-sit her. See for yourself. (By the way, no cavities mom!) As a bonus, here's a photo of daddy multitasking, using the boppy pillow to simultaneously feed his daughter and catch up on his favorite basketball team's (San Antonio Spurs) progress.
Sunday May 8th, 2005
Thursday May 5th, 2005 All you folks back home probably don't know that today is 'Children's Day' in Korea. School's out for everybody, myself included. This is a day that parents spend with their offspring, buy them a gift and go to on a picnic or at an amusement park. We spent the day at home with our little princess. Daddy got a lot of quality baby time. Mommy got a lot of rest. Below, for your viewing pleasure, we've added a new clip. Nothing exciting visually but turn up the volume on your speakers and you'll be delighted you did. The next clip shows a slice of that quality 'baby time' I was mentioning. Don't laugh at my accent! Wednesday May 4th, 2005 Wow, it's hard work learning French. Madeleine seems to think that verbs are the hardest. I'm afraid she fell asleep on the job.
Monday May 2nd, 2005 We went to the hospital today. Don't panic. Nothing terribly serious. Madeleine's eye just started to get gunky again. It could be related to the yellow dust of China that Korea gets plagued with every spring. It carries with it pollutants so it irritates people's eyes and throats. They recommend keeping babies inside during this time. Or, it could be her old infection flaring up again. Whatever the cause, when the gunk came back this weekend, we decided to go to the hospital (not that zoo of a clinic) to have it checked out. They gave her new drops and an ointment that we have to put inside her lower eye before bedtime. That should be fun!
It's a sad day at the Marshall's. We had to say goodbye to our beloved Jack. For a while now, his hip joints had been deteriorating and had started to cause him considerable pain. Without medicine, he couldn't even leave his cage to empty his bowels. Unfortunately, at his age (16 years old this summer), there wasn't anything the vet could do and the drugs were too hard on his liver to be continued long term. It came time to put him down. Not an easy decision, but the right one.
Saturday April 30th, 2005 It's the weekend, which means Madeleine gets to play 1-2-3-en haut! with daddy all day. Actually, she's has a new toy...a puppet called Mme Lapin ('Mrs. Rabbit' for you Anglophones). Ok, it's really a sock with rabbit head (and a little bell that rattles) sewn on, but we like to pretend she could be the next Shari Lewis. If you want to see Madeleine in action with 'Mme Lapin', check out the video below her picture. Don't forget to check out the 'Firsts' section to see Madeleine's first coffee buzz.
Wednesday April 27th, 2005 Madeleine's TV Here's a brand new video of Madeleine's new toy. As you've probably noticed, I only speak in French to her. It started when my mom was here (my family is French-Canadian in case you didn't know) and it seemed like a good idea to continue. Even Jon is getting into it and learning MY native language in leaps and bounds. Nothing like practice to learn a new language! The video on the left is the one showing Madeleine's new toy called an 'Ocean Wonders Aquarium Bouncer' by Fisher Price. Michelle Forbes recommended it to us. Apparently, Marie-eve loved hers. At first, Madeleine didn't seem to be able to keep her attention on the display, but we figured out that it we position the chair for the display to be backlit by the windows, it works for her.
The video on the right is a bonus
'close-up' reel! Monday April 25th, 2005 Fussy? Madeleine? Just in case some people think I gave birth to a plastic doll and not a REAL baby, here is a picture of 'fussy' Madeleine. Yes, she does cry sometimes...usually when she's hungry or needs a diaper change. Why is she crying in this picture? Maybe because she realized her mom was going out WITHOUT HER! Yes, I left Madeleine at home...with her dad and bottles of expressed milk because I had a doctor's apt. I have to admit, it wasn't easy to leave her and I was SO happy to come home. On the other hand, Jon and Madeleine got to spend quality time with each other. Jon was a bit disappointed though. He said she slept most of the time.
Saturday April 23rd, 2005 Bedtime! Some people are wondering what the sleeping arrangements are with the new baby. Well, the picture below gives you an idea. We bought a special 'bed' called a 'snuggle nest' for Madeleine (the top of which is visible in the picture). It lets you sleep with the baby in your bed, without worrying about flattening her out like a tortilla if you toss and turn at night. Even though, we have a queen-size bed, it does make it a tight squeeze. However, we wouldn't have it any other way. For one thing, it really makes breastfeeding at night much much easier. For another, I don't know if all new parents are as nervous as we are, but for the first few weeks, we just HAD to check to see if she was breathing every few minutes. (For all you film buffs out there, I kept reminding myself of Shirley MacLean's character in 'Terms of Endearment'.) In the picture below, Jon is reading out loud from a book called 'The Piano Tuner'. It's actually an old habit of ours. Jon always read out loud to me to help me relax before bedtime. Luckily, Madeleine seems to be lulled to sleep as well.
Thursday April 21st, 2005 Look how small my head is!
Wednesday April 20th, 2005 A few things about Madeleine... I guess I've let Josee do this too much of this blogging business, so I've scrounged up some content and screwed up the courage to put it to screen. When Madeleine falls asleep on my chest is one of my favorite things we do together. I love feeling her slight weight and the heat from her sleeping body on me. I even love the feeling of her drool seeping through my shirt. It is one of the sweetest things in life. I've taught Madeleine a game! When I change her diaper, I take her little hands in mine and let her grasp my thumbs. In my best French, which would still be unrecognizable by anyone but the tipped off and even then the most charitable of people, I count to three: un, deux, trois! Then I pull her hands up to around her ears and squeal: "En haut!" (Literally, "on top;" but really "up high!") We spend a moment squealing and celebrating the achievement. Then I say, "En bas." (Literally, "on bottom;" but really "back down!") I lower her hands and we do it all over again. We do this for several minutes at a time. Madeleine loves this game! She squeals with delight and if I let go of her hands, she does it on her own -- only she has trouble lowering her hands again, they just seem to float up there. She does calm down, though, and get excited all over again! It is just wonderful. When I think about all of the things her little body is doing right now -- growing the millions of neurons, developing her organs, coordinating her movements (sucking, swallowing and breathing, I have it on good authority, are very difficult to do those first few months) -- sharpening her sight and everything else, it just tires me out. She's working harder than I am... and she keeps a much better disposition, too! She has kept up with her developmental milestones -- something that I don't think I ever did (too much the procrastinator to be bothered to do them any time but the last minute). She pushes up. She turns her head from side to side. She hits herself in the face. She hits me wherever she can. (This isn't listed in the book as a developmental milestone, though, I suspect she's just getting it in while she's got a good excuse. If you watch the latest film clip Josee posted, you can see that wicked one-two combo that she's developed -- jab, jab, jab... right hook!) She focuses her eyes on the edges of our faces and occasionally on our eyes! (That is one of the most fantastic experiences of all!) She smiles and giggles. (Another fantastic experience made all the more so when she combines it with the look in your eyes.) She startles really well. She tracks moving objects with her eyes. She flails her arms and kicks her feet. I could go on and on, but this girlz got skillz, as they say. She's gotten so big, too. I know you probably can't see it, but she's much longer (we'll have to measure her one day) and heavier. Her face has filled out and her peach fuzz has fallen off (you know the hair that some babies are born with to protect their skin) and slowly the hair on her head is growing in. What a great baby! Tuesday April 19th, 2005 Madeleine says: What? Me worry?
Well, we've reached her second month already. Time flies when you spend it with a newborn. Saturday and Sunday, April 16 & 17th, 2005 Madeleine is a month old! Bonne fete Madeleine!
Thursday, April 14th, 2005 Today was a big day... At 1:30 p.m., Madeleine had an appointment with a PNU pediatrician for a checkup and to get an immunization shot. I had to go alone with her because Jon had classes all afternoon. I was a little nervous because I wasn't sure how Madeleine would react to getting poked with a needle. I pumped some milk and brought it along in case I would need something to soothe her with. We took a taxi (she's still too young for public places like the subway) and arrived a bit early. We went to meet Sanghee on the 6th floor and she was happy to see Madeleine again. Sanghee noted that Madeleine's face had filled out and she looked as if she had grown. At the pediatric office, the nurse weighed her: 4.4 kg (9.7 lbs)! We had to wait a while (doctor was late) but Madeleine slept through most of it. When the doctor examined her, Madeleine was very calm. The doc asked questions about her eating habits, pooping and peeing pattern, and general health. Then it was time to go to the INJECTION room. Of course, I was more nervous than the baby, who was blissfully unawares of what was coming. Sanghee went to get some hot water so that we could ready the bottle. When the nurse was ready with the syringe, I backed away (didn't want to be associated with that bad experience) and Sanghee helped the nurse do the deed. In true Madeleine fashion, she barely cried when the needle went in and stopped almost immediately after. What a great baby! All my panic for nothing! In case you're wondering, it was for Hepatitis B. Personally, I think they should give mothers a shot of valium before the whole ordeal! Below is a shot of Madeleine all pooped out from her long day. Daddy looks pretty pooped too!
Wednesday, April 13th, 2005 A day like most others... What's a normal day for Madeleine and her mom? Well, usually, daddy wakes up at 6 am and changes the baby's diaper. I will then feed her and puts her back to bed. If we're lucky, Madeleine and I will sleep in till 8 or 9. By the time we wake up, daddy's gone to work and we move into the living room. We spend most of our day there. Madeleine will alternate between pooping & peeing, getting a diaper change, feeding, burping and spitting up a little, sleeping in the GACO Pack 'n Play, in a baby carrier or in my arms. Lately, we've been practicing with the Kozy Carrier. She cries very little and usually there's a good reason and I can rectify the problem as soon as I figure it out. Daddy comes home around 5 or 6. One of us makes dinner while the other plays with Madeleine. Bath time is around 7:30 and bedtime is 9 or 10 ... whenever Madeleine decides she's ready! Ha. Monday, April 11th, 2005 Here's the first official photo from our new Sony PC-350 camcorder (slash digital camera!) Not bad for a secondary feature. Emiko came today and showed me how to load the photos and films onto our computer. Get ready for an avalanche of visual media! We have some catching up to do. Now, if I can just figure out how to imbed film clips into this web page...
And now, what you've all been waiting for... Madeleine in action!
Sunday, April 10th, 2005 Ahhhh... weekends are bliss. Jon is home and parenting becomes a 50/50 endeavor. It's so nice to be able to do the little things like, going to the bathroom and not worrying about being interrupted halfway through...you know. I can also pretty much make myself breakfast or lunch at ANY time and know I'll be able to eat ALL of it uninterrupted. I can't tell you how many times a cup of tea has grown cold due to some Madeleine distraction. Don't get me wrong - I love my mommy duties - but during the week, my whole schedule revolves around a 3 week old cutie who refuses to settle into anything remotely resembling a schedule. On the weekend, I usually pump a bottle of milk to give Jon the opportunity to feed Madeleine. One of these days, I'll actually make it out the door and escape for an hour or two. It's not like I couldn't go now (Jon's always encouraging me to) but I'm still a bit 'oh I can't leave her yet...even with her loving, caring and totally competent daddy. We bought a Sony camcorder with money that Madeleine's grand-papa and grand-maman Chauvin, her aunt Diane and her great grand-papa Chauvin gave her. Unfortunately, to get a really cheap price we got one straight off the boat from Japan. Basically, it means it has Japanese labels and manual. To get an English/Korean version it would have cost $500 more. At first, it seemed like no big deal. What's so hard about learning to read a little Japanese? I already know the letter 'M'. Oh, Japan has four alphabets? Hmm didn't realize that. But hey, if I run into any problem, my friend Emiko Kumamoto can translate. Also, the camera shop was giving us an English manual on a CD. It'll be a cinch! Well, so far I've manage to 1) film some footage on the mini DV tape 2) film some mini footage on the Memory Stick and 3) look haphazardly at some of those filmed footages. I still can't a) take simple photos b) download anything onto my computer (the English CD doesn't have those instructions) and c) change the LCD panel's language to English. I'm also pretty skittish about pressing any buttons for fear of changing some setting irrevocably or worse, deleting some gem piece of footage. Luckily, tomorrow Emiko is coming for a visit and hopefully, afterwards I'll be able to post SOME photos for you die hard Madeleine fans! In the meantime, take my word for it, she is getting cuter by the day! No really! It's not just 'cause I'm her mommy. It's true. Really! By the way, for those dying to know: Madeleine's eyes have cleared up nicely. She is still looking a bit jaundiced (as the pediatrician noted) and I might have to stop breastfeeding her for a day or two (as our baby manual suggested). However, since we're going to PNU Hospital for a scheduled pediatrician visit on Thursday, I'll wait to see what he/she says. _____________________________________________ Wednesday, April 6th, 2005 Most of the day was spent organizing for, going to and coming back from the pediatrician's. See 'Firsts' for a full update. Jo's getting over her stomach flu. Mothering is a hard enough job without feeling under the weather. BTW (by the way) Madeleine was great at the doctor's...never cried, charmed everybody and took it all in stride. Micheline was right: we did get lucky - not only in the looks department, but also in her temperament. _____________________________________________ Tuesday, April 5th, 2005 See what I mean about blogging being hard? Here it is Tuesday and nothing since Saturday! Today is Plant a Tree Day in Korea. It is a national holiday devoted to planting trees. Of course, people don't plant trees helter-skelter, but dignitaries, civic groups and the American military all plant trees today. During the war the entire peninsula was nearly denuded. Now the South is completely re-forested again. The holiday has been a tremendous success. We've spent the day lolling about the house. Josee isn't feeling well (stomach flu we think), so I've been doing most of the baby care. For me it's been a good day, but for Josee, it has not been so good. Madeleine has the first symptoms of an eye infection -- she's had a crusty discharge and now the eye is slightly swollen. The skin around the eye is a little red, too. We'll take her to see a pediatrician tomorrow. It's funny, I love it best when I feel her in some way. When I hold her and she moves her bowels. When I'm in the room and she begins to fuss because she can't quite go to sleep or is hungry. When I bathe her or change her diaper. So, now that she has a little infection -- it shouldn't be anything too serious according to our doctor book -- I'm secretly thrilled! -- only I guess it isn't so secret any more. It's like I'm needed for something more than cooing and rocking and holding and soothing and carrying and all of that. I get to take her to the doctors and tell them what's wrong and then apply the anti-biotic ointment that they'll give us! It's a thrill, really. Right now, Madeleine sleeps peacefully on the couch behind me blissfully unaware of denuded countries or efforts at reforestation. When I think of her, which is all of the time, I am overwhelmed with feelings of gratitude. I thank the heavens and all that is holy for her. I thank Josee for bearing her and the hospital staff for easing her transition and ensuring its safety. I thank everyone involved in even the slightest way. For example, Donboy who provides this server space for our web site. I feel the deepest sense of gratitude I've ever felt in my life for anything. _____________________________________________ Saturday, April 3rd, 2005 I don't know if any of you are really big blogging fans or maybe even bloggers yourself, but while it is a great idea and all, it is really hard! I mean really hard! Here we've been blogging since Tuesday and I'm already completely worn out from the effort. The pressure is tremendous! Creating daily content, thinking of witty phrasings and sage advice. So far this all I've got:
See what I mean? And I've got to do this everyday! Other observations:
_____________________________________________ Friday, April 2nd, 2005 Projectile ...what? Most parents have heard of projectile vomiting, but have you ever heard of projectile diarrhea? Well, as Jon (and his sweater) can attest, it CAN happen. I was in the next room hanging clothes and suddenly heard Jon let out 'Good God!' followed by a hearty laugh. I rushed into the room and there was Jon still laughing, Madeleine on the Graco 'Pack & Play' changing table looking bewildered, and baby poo all over Jon's sweater, the changing table and the floor. Jon said 'Boy, she's got amazing PSI (pressure per square inch)!' Oh, and for all you die hard fans. The last of her cord stump fell out and ... it's an innie! _____________________________________________ Friday, April 1st, 2005 Today, Madeleine said her first words! Guess what they were? That's right: April fools. Ha ha. Actually I almost fooled Jon with that line. His eyebrows went up for a second there. Actually, I had a lot of fun sending April fools cards to people. Gabrielle (my sister's daughter) sent me the funniest one. It's a French site but everyone can get the idea: http://voxcartes.sympatico.ca/service/Start We are getting a digital video camcorder very soon. This is a gift from grand-papa and grand-maman Chauvin who said it's really a gift for themselves. We're looking into the Sony DCR-PC350 model. I found a great web site that helps compare models: http://www.camcorderinfo.com/ratings.php We can't wait to put up mini film clips of the baby with titles such as 'Madeleine's 101 facial expressions', 'Madeleine's 12 favorite sleeping positions', 'Noises from both ends' and 'Daddy changes a diaper like a pro-wrestler'. Well, mommy didn't get a nap today
and it shows. I almost burned dinner and am having trouble typing in a
straight line, so it's off to bed early tonight. You know you're a new
parents when...
