These pictures are on Dong Khoi in District 1. I offer them here just to give y'all a taste of what HCMC is like.  We were waiting for the Phu My Hung bus one day when I took them.

This is a street venders cart.  People bicycle around selling stuff.  One of the things I love about the tropics is the slow pace of life -- outside it's too darn hot to be in too big of a hurry.

Just to the left of the bicycle vender was this scene of a woman selling sweets and another bicycle vender. Notice the motor scooter parked on the sidewalk to the left.

Here's a woman across the side walk selling soup. I love this photo for the detail: She carries her soup and gear over her shoulder with this contraption; little stools surround her for her customers; plastic protects the far basket; dirty dishes litter the sidewalk (eventually, she'll wash them in a tub); in the distance you can see a bicycle fruit monger.

A close up of the soup vender.

This was the scene that originally caught my eye: the soup vender had a crowd of people gathered. You can see how quickly she dished out their soup, they ate, and she collected their money because I took this one and walked down and took the others.

This woman is burning "lucky money." It is fake money burnt to appease ancestors, ghosts, and maybe gods to bring luck to their business or at least to avoid bad luck.
