w How it all began...

Way back on June 8, 2008, I had made this entry in the blog:

Today we had an extra special adventure in marshalltrio land!  Today we were on the hunt for the wild and elusive gecko!

As you may know, geckos are the ubiquitous lizard in Viet Nam and they inhabit every household in the land. Unlike other uninvited visitors to our abodes, geckos are as helpful as they are entertaining -- they eat bugs (!), the making a curious knocking sound, and they pop out and run across the walls at odd moments.

It was just such a moment that inspired this safari!

Out came the gecko!

Out came the camera!

And we were off!

But, I never included any of the pictures! I just didn't have time... so here they are!

On to the safari! <-- it's a link, y'all!

The ubiquitous gecko makes his sudden appearance!  And just as quickly dashes for cover under the living room carpet! (Return to the thumbnails or meet the Wild Child of the Mekong Delta)

Just as suddenly, the mysterious Wild Child of the Mekong Delta makes her appearance!  Shy at first, her curiosity about the gecko drives her to overcome her initial fears of the safari hunters and their cameras. (Return to the thumbnails or meet Monsieur Lezard)

Monsieur Lezard makes another dash across the room.  But, this time too near the hidden Wild Child of the Mekong Delta! (Return to the thumbnails or on to poised for the capture)

S-l-o-w-l-y, she stretches out her arm... now she's set to make her grab...

(Return to the thumbnails or on to making the grab!)

A sudden lunge!

(Return to the thumbnails or on to caught or missed?)

Disappointment! The Wild Child has come up empty handed. The gecko has escaped... this time! (Return to the thumbnails or on to the trail)

She is undaunted by her near miss, and pursues the gecko to his hiding place under the chair... (Return to the thumbnails)
